Does Geisinger Insurance pay for rehab?

Geisinger covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. They will also cover detox and medication-assisted treatment programs if deemed necessary by your primary doctor or attending physician. They offer special programs for first responders, uniformed professionals, healthcare professionals, and programs for those who have been diagnosed with mental illness.

Understanding your insurance coverage is the important first step in the recovery process. Their health insurance plans cover rehab stays but depending on the plan and coverage you have chosen will determine the benefit and coverage.

Geisinger also has several of their own outpatient treatment centers located in Pennsylvania, and their own inpatient treatment center Geisinger Marworth, close to Scranton N.Y. Geisinger will probably recommend one of their own centers first, before offering services outside their network. However, you also may have benefits and coverage for programs outside your network. We can help you verify your benefits and see if one of the centers that work with us is in-network with your insurance plan.

What should I do if my Geisinger insurance doesn’t cover all of the cost of my rehab stay?

Health insurance companies are required to cover substance abuse treatment programs, but they do not have to cover the full cost of treatment. You could have co-pays, co-insurance payments, and/or deductibles that you may have to come up with. Staying in-network and finding the right center for your needs can save you money in the long run. Some treatment programs that are in-network with Geisinger Insurance Group may offer scholarships to help those in need. These programs are also set up to help you get a loan through a third-party lender specifically for your treatment program.

What type of rehab treatment will Geisinger pay for?

Residential inpatient treatment programs are covered through your health insurance provider. Geisinger owns and operates their own inpatient program (Geisinger Marworth) but they will also cover treatment outside of their own network. Depending on the coverage you have chosen you may have to use only in-network providers for rehab stays.

Outpatient rehab center programs are covered through your insurance plan including intensive outpatient therapy. If you are living in Pennsylvania, they have a network of clinics that they own and operate that may be recommended by them. We can help you find a treatment center anywhere in the country. Call us for more information on substance abuse facilities that take Geisinger Insurance today.

Will Geisinger cover medication-assisted treatment programs?

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) “medications for addiction treatment” can be an effective way for some people to overcome drug and alcohol addictions. MAT programs are not just for medication dispensing. These programs also offer counseling, weekly consultations, and family coordination services. It is highly recommended that you also enroll in an outpatient treatment program or attend support group meetings to give you more support while enrolled in a MAT program.

Medications used in MAT treatment programs
Buprenorphine (Suboxone®)
IM Buprenorphine (Sublocade®)
Extended-release naltrexone (Vivitrol®)

What type of plans does Geisinger offer?

Geisinger offers several different plans through your employer or the marketplace. The main types of plans are listed below with explanations for each type.

HMO plan (health management organization) has you assign a primary care physician who manages your care and makes referrals on your behalf. With this type of insurance, you pay less out-of-pocket expenses, but you will have to stay in-network for your providers.

POS plan (point of service plan) will also utilize a primary care physician to coordinate services. This type of plan allows for out-of-network providers as well as in-network providers to be able to care for you. Out-of-network will cost more through deductibles or co-payments.

PPO plan (provider organization plan) will not require a PCP (primary care physician) and allows you to see providers in or outside of their network. But you will have a higher co-payment for outside network providers.

You can call to verify benefits by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. If you haven’t already signed up for their portal, we suggest that you do. In the portal, you will see the coverage you have and what percentage of treatment your current plan will cover. You can find the portal HERE.

Why you should call us

We may be able to give you more options for treatment including holistic treatment programs, Christian recovery programs, secular treatment programs, and dual diagnosis treatment programs. Having more options for treatment will lead to a higher success rate. We have found that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment program that will work for everyone. This is why there are so many different types of programs for substance and alcohol abuse. It is best to understand your options before deciding to just enter any rehab center.

Your call is confidential and subject to HIPAA laws that we must follow. We will not notify your insurance company unless you decide that you would like to use your insurance to enter one of the programs we offer. Our counselors can help you verify your insurance coverage. Our admissions specialists are available to help you 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Call us now. We will help you find out if your insurance plan is in-network with one of the treatment center programs we work with or help you find one that is, anywhere in the United States.

How We Can Help

Please contact us by phone for immediate assistance. This is a necessary step in beginning the recovery process for yourself or for a loved one. Our addiction treatment specialists and staff have over 25 years of experience in helping people find effective and affordable treatment for all addictions. What you tell us is completely confidential. We are HIPAA compliant. It is sometimes beneficial for the client to go to treatment further away from home. Getting away from temptations and friends who may still be using is often better for many people. Clients who go to rehab in another state also have a harder time leaving treatment early as well. Depending on the situation, our counselors may suggest looking for substance abuse programs that are a plane flight away. We are here to answer your questions and to get you (or a loved one) into treatment today. For immediate intake, call us now.
