What is Women for Sobriety?
Women for Sobriety is an organization of women for women.
This program for women was founded in 1975 and is the first peer-support program that has been specifically tailor-made for women overcoming substance abuse disorders. This women's-only recovery group has both online and regional in-person meetings. The New Life program empowers women through support, secular, and life-affirming principles to help address the unique challenges that women in recovery face. This is an all-inclusive program for women regardless of financial resources, race, religion, abilities, or background. The philosophy that drives the New Life program states that women must address their real needs and increase their self-worth, self-values, and self-efficacy. Through the program, women will learn how to cope and overcome their substance abuse with group interactions and support, as well as learn how to identify and approach solving problems.
Women for Sobriety's New Life Program
Can you believe in God and still participate in the WFS program? YesWomen for Sobriety does not discriminate against someone’s beliefs. WFS is solely an empowerment and support group for women who want to take charge of their lives through self-improvement rather than relying on faith to do it for them. Religious beliefs and self-betterment can go hand in hand. However, they do not have to do so for someone to achieve a sober life. Below are a few ways women learn self-empowerment through New Life. Through this program, women have achieved great things and gone on to lead happier, more productive lives.
*Positive reinforcement (approval and encouragement)
*Cognitive strategies (positive thinking)
*Letting the body help (relaxation techniques, meditation, nutrition, and physical exercise)
*Dynamic group involvement
