The total rate of deaths attributed to alcohol or substance abuse in the whole state rose 120% among Iowans over the age of 25: this is driven largely due to opioid-related deaths. Fentanyl was implicated in 83% of the most recent deaths showing how this drug has impacted communities all over the state.
