With fentanyl now being added to other medications to make them stronger, the drug has taken over the number one spot for the biggest drug used in the state, replacing heroin. Heroin is still a problem in Massachusetts and is still the second most common cause of opioid-related deaths, and now they are finding that it is often laced with fentanyl. New Bedford Had 54 confirmed opioid overdoses in 2019, which is a shocking number when you consider the population of the city.
